Our Work

I would say overall I felt this film was successful as we were able to create an end project that was in line with our vision and overcome the challenges that we faced during production. We were given the prompt of 2 friends finding a mysterious object and going on an adventure my first idea was called the 'vape from space' which explored the idea of what would happen if an alien vaped. Vaping is extremely popular across long road students and the genera population of teenagers and young adults in the UK. Many see vaping as a safer alternative to smoking however due to the little research done on vapes this is actually unknown. Vapes also have a very futuristic look to them which is why I thought this would be interesting to put this in a futuristic/space environment.

I drafted a rough plot as well as some outfit and make up ideas. 

Main problems: being allowed to vape on campus, me getting sick and missing a day, Phoebe dropping media,

We were given the prompt of 2 friends meeting and finding a mysterious object to make a short film about. We first drafted out some ideas we had. I wanted from the beginning to have the mysterious object as the vape as I so frequently see longroad students vaping at the bridge and at the leisure center so I felt it would be a relatable, easy to understand concept as well as potentially humorous. I originally wanted to use the theme of space and set my film on a different imaginary planet (slaytopia) following earth's destruction and have the vape crash on to this planet as a piece of flying space junk. I liked this idea as I thought it would be interesting to look at normal human objects from an alien perspective and also love costume design and really wanted to film something with futuristic costumes. However when I discussed my ideas with the other group members we decide to keep with the idea of the vape but set it on earth instead because all 3 of the other 3 group members they wanted to do a more dystopian film about the future of the earth. Our group discussion also prompted us to exaggerate the effects of the vape to show a more psychedelia side as one of my group members, Jake's idea focused a psychedelia inducing rock. We wanted to do this for both drama and comedy. 

We refilmed some of the shots for this as we felt a lot of the earlier shots were too shaky so we wanted to make them more balanced. We also added some new shots to make the story flow better and increase the tension. For example we added an up-close face shot of Kai's face looking scared and morphing around too increase the horror element in our film. I also added a piece of music to the film, I chose a piece of music called '' and overlaid a monologue from the movie 'The Basket Ball Diaries' which is a film about a teenage athletes struggle with heroin addiction, I chose this as I wanted to show that the main character was addicted to the vape and this wasn't just his first rodeo therefore implying that the effects of the vape was caused by long-term use so that vape users watching the film don't just dismiss the idea because they have already vaped once.
