23/01/24 - Today we began our year two final major project, I began by writing what my initial ideas are and which one I am going to pursue, I decided to create a music video about a bad trip. I was thinking and feeling confident about this choice and ready to begin writing my proposal for my project. This was a good experience as I knew exactly what idea I wanted to create. There is nothing else I can make of the situation and there is nothing more I could have done. If this rose again I would do the same thing of writing my initial ideas and pursuing the strongest one.

03/02/24 - Today I finalized writing my proposal, this involved what I will research, the production plan, my rationale and important information on my music video. I was thinking and feeling confident about my idea and my proposal as now I have a clear knowledge of how the music video will look and what is needed to create this. This was a good experience as everything is clear on the project and I now have an understanding of how the final overall project should look. There is nothing else I can make of the situation as I have written what is needed to create the music video. I could have gone more into detail in some topics such as adding more research to my secondary audience, however I feel my proposal has given me a clear understanding and I have supported all my ideas with research so I plan to improve this this week.

 

09/02/24 - Today I completed my target audience research primary and secondary. I feel confident with the research I have gathered and I feel that I have developed an understanding in what my target audience should be for the topics in the video (i.e taking LSD) and the genre of my video (psychedelic horror). I feel the experience was good because I managed to create an exact target audience and figured out which groups are more likely to watch my music video. I feel I could have done deeper research to cement this but I feel I understand who my target audience will be. If this rose again I will follow the same method of starting off primary research and then research into studies of who watches this type of music video in more depth however this was difficult to do at the time as it is not a common genre of music video.

 

21/02/24 - Today I completed my primary research. I made a form on the effects of LSD and surveyed people who have taken the drug. I am thinking and feeling confident and happy with the insight I gained from this. This was a good experience as it gave me more ideas on how to realistically emulate the experience of being on this drug. There is nothing else I could have made of the situation and done as I feel I have very solid ideas now of how it feels to take lsd and what kind of visuals and emotions people experience. If this rose again I will do the same method of using trip sequences of films to ask which are the most relatable and then following with questions about why they relate to this as I felt it gave me a clear visual to look at.

 

07/03/24 - Today I completed my action research this was looking at the different aspects of creating a music video and focusing on the skill I want to develop in my FMP which was camera work and lighting. I was thinking about the different types of resources I should use to get the best amount of research on each subject but also testing them myself so I can get the feel for what I think looks good. The experience was good as I felt much more confident in my decisions after testing this equipment myself, I also felt that I researched to a high standard how different lighting is used to create different emotions. There is nothing else I could have made of the situation or have done as I have researched the main aspects needed to create the music video. If this rose again I will follow the same steps of researching and testing the equipment.

13/03/24 - Today I completed the pre-production elements needed to film. I was thinking and feeling confident and happy with the shot list and script as I feel I now am able to know exactly what I'm going to film and I am happy I have the risk assessment as I now know how to avoid a lot of problems, i.e not wearing shoes to avoid tripping over shoelaces. The situation is positive as I have all the documents that are needed for filming. There is nothing else I could have done or made of the situation as I have all the documents needed and have resolved all the problems before filming. If this rose again I will follow the same steps of filling out the documents and resolving all the issues before the production days.

29/03/24 - Today was the first day of filming, I began by filming all the scenes that take place in the basement, using a tripod and a shoulder mount to create both still shots and tracking shots. I filmed all the shots today as I only had one day where the whole cast was available for reshoots. I felt confident and felt filming was a good experience as when playing back the footage the movement was very smooth in all the shots and the majority of the shots were in focus and the framing of the characters was nice. My only big issue was my camera dying during filming however I feel happy with the angles I used to film and I will use this mistake to learn and improve for the next time I film. I plan to use the same technique of rehearsing setting up the shot and filming as I am overall very happy with the footage we filmed.

30/03/24

Today I looked at the footage and put it together into a rough edit, I then wrote down which shots I needed to reshoot so I was ready for the second day of filming. I am glad I did this as I now feel much more confident in what I need to do in the second/final day of filming. I wish I had looked at the footage more when I was filming so I plan to change this during my next day of filming.

05/04/24 

Today was the second day of filming I remembered to charge my camera before filming so shooting went very smoothly. I also kept a list of shots on my phone which needed to be filmed which further aided filming going so smoothly. I was very happy with this day of filming which is good because it was the final day.

28/04/24 

Today I completed the final edit of my short film. I was feeling confident with the outcome as I was proud of the rhythm of the clips with none of the cuts feeling jarring I also liked how the different types of shots worked well with the music when playing back the edit. Overall the editing was a good experience I feel the effects look really good and I am proud of all the animations I made. I found animating was the hardest part of this process as it took such as long time but I'm glad I persevered as I feel it added a lot to my music video. What I could of also done is added credits at the end of the music video to make the project look more complete. If this rose again I think I would create a rough edit before creating my final edit but it was difficult because I wanted to see how it looked with all the effects added.
